Oh wow! What a beautiful essay and entry into this remarkable place. I feel like you have managed to weave all of us into this history. Thank you for sharing!
thank you :-) you and Jason would love this event. Maybe plan a visit out here next fall to experience it and also visit our place? The colors are peaking this time of year too!
Wow--what an invitation! That sounds amazing. We just did a very brief trip to Utah last week to visit friends who just moved to Park City, and also a friend who has a farm in Castle Valley, near Moab. I'm eager to adventure further into Colorado! I like this idea of getting this on the calendar for fall 2023!
Such a thoughtful read, Sarah. You take us on a real journey here; thanks for being the first thing thats made me stop and slow down and just rest, at all today. Bless you x
Sarah, how rewarding to hear your words as an extension of your grandfather's writing and stories about the his everyday life, land, the horses, and family. I appreciate the descriptive mentions about climate change, and yes the UTMB entrepreneurism on steroids which you "see" prophetically. Thank you for mentioning the native land, for we ARE on native land, and with native peoples now descendants of those who could keep humans, animals, earth and seas in balance.
Thank you Jennifer for reading such a looooonnngg post! I think you'd really like this race; maybe plan on it for early Oct next year? It's the perfect time to visit the region (and me!) to see the changing color of the aspens.
Thanks so much for sharing your story and the history of the area. I wish I had gotten more information from my dad when he was living in the area. He grew up in Hotchkiss and spent a lot of time in those areas. I remember visiting a great aunt in Nucla. I need to get the book you reference. I think it would be really interesting.

Thank you Angie!
Very cool that you got to run an actual race through a place with such family history!

I always love it when you weave in stories of your family history with your running. Thank you!
