Thanks for being so open with this report — it helps to know I wasn’t the only one feeling some of these things. The planning and training and feeling ready, followed (very early in the run) by the realization that this was going to be a different experience than the one I’d visualized so often. The slow agony of those endless gasping climbs, the super-sore throat, lost voice…. Anyway, we got through it (and I take consolation from what Sophie pointed out, maybe at the base of Grant Swamp Pass — when you say you finished Hardrock, no one asks what your time was). I’m still making my way home (about to take off from Dallas to Pittsburgh, and trying hard not to cough so much and scare everyone). Your experience helps give me perspective on my own, which I’m still trying to fully understand — thanks, and congratulations.

Loved reading this. A zillion congratulations again. Your analogy of a birth-plan made me laugh out loud. How true. When it comes down to it…you just find a way to finish. And Morgan looked fabulous in his shirt too.

Sarah this description is so honest, gutsy, inspiring. I imagine it will take several weeks to fully recover. You braved the worst demon of all -doubting ourselves, by just taking one step over and over again. You are a true champion & heart warrior, inside and out. Thank you for so generously making the effort to share this with us🙏💪🍀✨💖💖.

This report is amazing, and I enjoyed every second of your story. I was rooting you and the other racers on from afar all weekend. Congratulations!

I had a trail race in the middle of tracking all of you, and before/during/after kept thinking about the sheer length and difficulty of Hard Rock - I could hardly fathom thinking about how you'd been out there for a full day before I started, and then would continue to be out there for another night. Grit, guts, and strength don't even begin to cover it. You are so cool and I'm so happy for you that you accomplished this! Thanks for being an inspiration to all of us.

Silver Rush 50 - A good day out there and some good inspiration for a future 100, though reading your race recap is even better inspiration :) I hope you are recovering well and enjoying your major accomplishment this week!

Wow Sarah, wow! I was obsessively filling the tracker and with every cell in my body knew you’d finish. But I had no idea what a journey it was for you. I am so impressed and proud of you. The strength and grit it took over those last many miles is incredible. A huge congratulations, you did it, you did it!

Thank you! I found out later that my tracker was glitchy and froze a lot, so I must’ve seemed extra slow! 😂

Love these reports Sarah and congratulations! The main thing is the fact that you finished and you persevered doing something extremely tough and now you are a Hardrocker. I’m so sorry to hear about your mouth sores. I know of quiet a few instances where that has happened to people with high citric acid sports nutrition products. When it was still popular, spring energy awesome sauce caused the same issues when taken in large quantities. Rest up!

Epic, and typically Hardrock: from the apex to the abyss and back again. Keep slugging it out and moving forward. Eventually you get back to Silverton, usually several hours after you had planned to.

Fun to follow you along and to hear some of the gory details. As the Rocket so famously said, “it’s not whether you win or lose, but whether you have a good story to tell.”

Nicely done, on all counts!

Congrats on getting it done!! Your report made me feel like I was there with you on the journey. I purposely avoided looking at the results because I wanted your story to be fresh and suspenseful—which it was! Great job conquering “that voice” as well as the course. So happy for you to have done it!!
