What a great way to celebrate your birthday! Last year I decided to celebrate turning 63 by running the Hennepin 100 which fell on my b-day (Oct. 2). I figured I'd never get another chance to run a 100 on my birthday! The finisher flannel shirt was a great gift :-) Be well. I enjoy your writing so much.
I love this post. I realize that I do this too! I don't want to make a fuss about my birthday because I don't want people to bother. Sometimes I wonder if it's a way for me to save face too. What if no one wanted to celebrate with me? And R2R2R!! Have the most amazing time!
This is such a great post. I love your attitude towards birthdays, and I'm inspired by your day of hiking and tacos and a pedicure to think ahead for my 64th. I usually try to do some sort of out of the ordinary athletic thing on my birthday, so maybe this year I should really plan ahead!
You are awesome sister. I really appreciate your posts. Happy birthday Mother’s Day combo. Here’s to 50 more good happy healthy years. If you ever need an ultra partner in the North east im there🤣. I’m also on the mailing list for el Camino thanks to your prior post. I promise if I go to hike it and enjoy verses running 😬👍❤️
Love this post Sarah!! Hope you had a very happy birthday!! I will always remember your birthday and all the fun celebrations we had as children. I think a favorite Sarah birthday memory of mine is of bouncing around in the back of your truck as we were returning from a birthday camping trip and loving that your parents allowed us to eat an apple instead of brushing our teeth.
Kate, it is so great to hear from you! Your email (which is flagged for me to write a reply) was one of the things that made my birthday special. I love your memory above. (Patton's Cabin overnight maybe?) I'm so grateful to still be friends with you & Carolyn since preschool. I'll never forget my 5th birthday -- an overnight trip to Disneyland -- with you, Carolyn, Amy Griggs, Lorena, and I think Michelle. Hope we can reconnect in person! Best wishes to you and thanks so much for reading my posts.
I love this for so many reasons. I mourned turning 30, but 40 was liberating (and became a chapter in my book 😊). I don't love the wrinkles and bad knees, but I love the wisdom that had come with age.
Omg, being the same age as you (actually, older by 6 months), the 26-years-ago musing made me 😧 😧😧! Wonderful post, Sarah, and it sounds like a glorious birthday. So wish I could be going to the Canyon with you guys. Have a great, and safe, trip.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful birthday thoughts and experiences. You’re causing me to rethink my upcoming 48th. For the last several years I’ve brushed the day aside completely, asking everyone around me to do absolutely nothing. Not even a card, please. I’m not entirely sure why? I love to make birthdays special for others but don’t like to receive the same. I’m going to spend time rethinking this, thank you!
Enjoy your R2R2R adventure! It is one of our favorite running adventures ever and one we hope to do again!
Love this Sarah - I just turned 46 a few days ago and while the reflection says otherwise, I still don't feel my age at all. Not only that, life just keeps better. Thanks for this post, have a blast in the Canyon and a very happy belated to you!
oh my gosh, thanks so much for reading, that means so much! And bizarre coincidence: I am literally just now addressing an envelope to mail to you & Hilary ... one of those old-fashioned snail-mail cards (I got your new address from her) :-)
Loved the hanging flower baskets Morgan did for your birthday. So glad you took a day to yourself with no agenda. Have a safe wonderful run with your old buddies in the Grand this weekend!
Happy birthday! I guess belated. I actually love my birthdays. I may not ask for gifts, but be assured I am going to ask for an adventure I want, and allow myself to indulge in some food going out and might even have a drink (something I don't do, a drink is definitely a twice a year occasion, and going out is either when traveling or to our local golf course joint once in two months). And I absolutely love getting texts and emails and calls (the cards are sort of fell into abyss). Glad you enjoyed your day!

Wow that’s impressive—congrats!

So much to celebrate ❤️ Have a wonderful trip to the GC! I look forward to your pics and report!
Thanks Sophie! We are considering the Clear Creek Trail now thanks to you.

Lol you knew me then…so long ago but not really, until I see our kids and marvel that they’re now around the age I was when I met you.
Omg, you’re right! I hadn’t even thought of that! 🤯
happy birthday and mother's day! such wise and wonderful words :) have a blast on your adventure!

Thanks Olga, you have a great attitude! I too like the emails/texts along with cards.
