Great to hear Magda is doing well, and is running strong after her hip replacement. I had no idea she was the President of Gu now. That’s awesome! I was fortunate enough to meet her at Leadville in 2019 at the Mount Elbert trailhead. She was very kind and generous with her time. Despite running Leadville herself, she was still working the expo booth the day before the race, giving out samples of Boon. I am, and will always be, immensely inspired by ultrarunners that have a career and a family and run at a high level. Sure it’s fun to see some of the best go all in and break records, but when someone is juggling family and work demands and still exploring the limits of the human body, that’s what helps me stay motivated to chase my own goals.
What an icon of resilience and strength in our sport and for everyone! She has provided us with that template through peak performance and now through a significant health challenge. I wish Magda nothing but the best and have no doubt she will be back stronger than ever. The hug she gave me at Western States after I got my buckle is one I will never forget. Thinking of you and sending you one right back, Magda!
I heard the AJW interview as well, but really loved your questions here and to see how she is doing after the hip replacement and as an older athlete! And her new goals and embracing the new decade she is in! I have tried to do that as well... 60 was a bit tougher than 50 but finding new inspiration every day!
Truly related to the comment/desire to scale back, keeping the goals more abstract and loose, with an aim to prioritize the connected with the running community. I think about that so much these days. Especially when it comes to this sport, which seems to attract people with views or ambitions that I share. Fitness, trying to live your best life, reserving outdoor space for a whole host of relevant reasons to be (fill in your why) etc., refuting the drill baby drill mentality …oops did I let that slip . Sometimes it’s just hard to be a Democrat. I’ll save that stuff for my comments I share at the NYTs. Sorry. Not sorry(?). Oof let’s get my rudder tracking on course, anyway I do like crewing and sharing information with newcomers more than ever. I’ll leave it at that
As a spectator and trail running media consumer, one thing I’ve noticed and found striking about Magda B is that she is very articulate, shares a lot of valuable insights about the human element of performance, and is an amazing role model with a big heart. With an amazing resume of experiences and finishes at the front too. MBoulet is definitely in the pantheon of the greats with lots more to share on the horizon as she sees fit.
So great to have some news about her. Theres an iconic picture of her flying down a sand dune, beaming, that kinda sums up the thrill of running that come to mind so that image is evergreen for the sport. Wondered if she returned to her athletic roots and cranked out some prodigious laps in the pool before easing back onto the trails. My musings aside, super stoked the outcome is a smashing success and she able to lace them up for the joy of it. Yay Magda! Great read SLS!

Thanks—I love your comment and agree!
Thanks yet again for an awesome and inspirational post
