Thanks for linking this book - picking up a copy! (Even though I’m still running but I’m sure that day will come!)

The book sounds interesting. I catch myself writing about running as if it's accessible to everyone, and of course it isn't. Might have to give this a read. Thank you! And Happy Birthday!

wow great post! I'm a male grappling for yearsssss with running transition, still am! The Cocodona coverage is currently adding to the angst! Toying with basically ridiculous idea of signing up for an 50k (or 20k or 10k) in Camden ME. The issue is L knee, operated on 3 times over the years after being injured.....running. It was before the internet and I feel I would't have had surgical intervention then if I knew what I know now. I can mostly walk without serious pain and sometime I bust out into a jog, BUT I WANT TO RUN!!!!

Suggestion box for future topics- running barefoot and running in sandals and minimalist shoes.

And perhaps most importantly, do a review of the book Rise of the Ultra Runners (if you haven't already). The audiobook version is basically one of the best, most enjoyable books I've ever read on any subject because it is well written with lots of lol humor and tells a great story

Thank you Cory, and good luck to you. The good news about ultras is that many have generous-enough cutoffs to allow you to briskly hike the whole thing, if hiking works for you, so that way you can be a part of it. I feel for you.

Yes, brisk hiking is the best option for me for sure.

Please lmk if you've listened to the book Rise of the Ultra Runners!

No I have not (yet)

Hard to believe, but you are in for a treat! The audio version rules and all you have to do to get the idea is listen to the prologue!

Happy Birthday, Sarah! Great review—added to my TBR pile. I’m off for day 1661 on my streak today (which is suddenly more challenging!) We’re at Mile 558 on our adventure. Thanks for inspiring all runners-especially us saltier ones of a certain generation.

hi Cam! That's amazing you've already gone 558 miles! I've been thinking of you on your through hike as I read your extra-helpful comments on my manuscript. My husband tore through the first thriller in your series, Stable, which is now on my TBR list, and he's onto False Summit. Take care and keep on trekking!

Happy Birthday Sarah!! Hope your race is a blast this weekend! Watching Rachel was unreal, she looked like she was ready to do another run right away. And watching Courtney racing down the mountain and coming in so strong (after going of course 5 miles earlier, which they failed to mention enough IMHO) was my favorite thing! Also, seeing Jeff and Tara running together... so fun!!

I know, Rachel descended the rocks on Mingus faster and flowing more than I ever could, even with nearly 250M on her legs! I thought the commentary when Courtney was running her final miles was really bad; they sounded like they were sorry for her instead of enthusiastically pumping up the fact that she passed Heather, totally finished strong, and as you said made up miles after going g off course. AJW and Corinne did better commentary when Rachel finished.

Ohhh.. Sounds interesting! 57 was a good year for me. Hope it is for you too!

I'm going to order that book, because the day may be coming when I just don't feel like running anymore! At age 75, I do hope to continue for as many years as I can, but a person never knows what could happen. I have the live stream of the Cocodona 250 on right now, and I'm amazed at how well everyone is doing. Truly inspiring!

The book sounds like a good one for me to read! Not at that junction yet, but going to be 64 this year and am grateful every day to still get out there and still enter races.

Following Cocodona and am completely blown away by Rachel's performance!!

Happy birthday to you Sarah and hope you have a good race this weekend

OH MY GOSH COCODONA! I’m training for my first ultra this fall and I have all the newcomer’s zeal. I can’t believe how fast Rachel is going. Honestly, though, any person who even attempts that distance has my admiration.

Thank you for the book discussion— it sounds like it has a lot of useful knowledge.

And happy birthday!! 🎊

Thank you! What is the ultra you are training for?

This book sounds perfect for where I am right now --- 20 weeks post op from meniscus root tear repair, 4 weeks into a gradual return to run program. This week I'm allowed to run 3:00, walk :30, five times for a total of 15 minutes running. It's feeling great to be running again...but in the back of my mind, I'm struggling with questions: Will "it" start to hurt when I get to 30, 40, or 60+ minutes of running? Will I ever be able to run a 50K again? What about my other knee, the one with osteoarthritis, which carried to load -- literally-- during the brutal six weeks of non- weight-bearing? I'm working on just being present and enjoying where my feet are. Thanks for the book recommendation!

As for Queen Rachel, I'm inspired by her calm, her sense of humor, her tenacity, and her grit. I showed the livestream to my students this morning and they had so many questions. Go Rachel!

Happy birthday a few days early dear Sarah! Go kick a$$ this weekend! XO
