I'm a subscriber to both newsletters and loved this Q&A! I'm also a journalist. My question for you both is how do you view your relationship with your job/work and how do you balance that with other things outside of work you're passionate about?

Loved reading both of your stories of running, racing and writing. Really fascinating how all the different aspects have developed over time. Thank you for the post.

I’ve always been so focused and tuned into your running perspective Sarah and it’s delightful to hear Terrell’s input as well. You both asked great questions of each other and it helps us non runners begin to understand the process.

Beautiful post, Sarah and Terrell. Thanks for the candid perspectives on running and Substacking.

The whole ultra world is utterly fascinating. It was great to learn more about Scott Jurek and Ann Trason, both of whom I first read about in the classic book Born to Run. So cool that you live down the block from Ann!

The week long run in the wilderness where you carry everything with you particularly struck me. Sounds about as close a person can get to the seasonal migration of so many animals and birds. Picking up and going, for real. Good for you!

Personally, I've been running for many years, but have never gotten beyond 5k several times a week, which seems to do the trick for my body, mind, and spirit. (I wrote a bit about my running experience here: https://thehealthyjew.substack.com/p/you-talk-too-much.) Yet recently I've been toying with slightly longer distances on the beautiful countryside trails here in Israel that are so rich with history and heritage. The marathon honestly doesn't call on me, but working up to half-marathon sounds like a good idea. 21k sounds much more part of "regular" living than 42k. I know I can easily do 10, so why not double? Thanks Terrell for the emphasis on half-marathoning!
