Thank you for these reminders. It really is an ongoing practice to be where you are. I love the analogy of being in the mile you are in & I will carry these thoughts of welcoming 2023 with enthusiasm over the next few days. 🤗
I think asking too much of ourselves often gets in the way of appreciating what is already there (whether of our own making or not). You may not have intended this as a new year’s resolution, but what better way to run our first mile of 2023 than with the intent to fill it and the ones after it with gratitude and mindfulness? So thank you.
Beautifully written (as always) and such good advice. This is just what I needed to read to calm my stress about trying to run 24 hours during the atmospheric river that’s going to hit us later this week.
I always tell people the reason why I love a good long run is because the legs are moving and the mind isn’t.
As I’ve aged I developed more anxious thoughts and even sleep problems because my brain won’t stop trying to solve life’s problems. During the summer when I’m able to get out and really tire myself out on a regular basis with running adventures things are much better. This time of year, when my mileage drops and the sun is nonexistent, things are worse.
Thank you for reading! I appreciate that you can relate. I didn't even get into all the insomnia-producing thoughts about the state of the world. I hope you also read Brendan's post that I linked to, it's a feel-good one!
Thank you so much for this reminder Sarah,— "Be in the mile you're in". I forget! HA...I don't want to forget. Thank you for your generous writing. Happy New Year!
As always your writing brings all of your experiences to life. The bonfire did just that for me, I was completely focused on the joy it brought me & absolutely loved seeing it with my incredible son!
This renovated so much. Thanks for sharing ♥️

Making peace with the Vert is the perfect metaphor for life’s ups and downs. ✌🏽

Thank you Jen. You and your girls will have an adventure NYE! Take steps to prevent chafing from all that wet fabric :-) I wish I could be there!

Thanks Sarah, I just did. Somehow I had never read that particular post, but now I have and I’m glad I did.
