Loved reading about your reunion and happy times with your kids and old friends, especially on horseback (I grew up with horses and miss them terribly--does anything smell as good as a sweaty horse??) I looked up the Thatcher School and whoa, it. is. expensive--my son's private college was much, much less, lol. I'm glad they offer scholarships/financial assistance so that not everyone is excluded.

Thanks for reading! Yes, the tuition is comparable to a private college. (The horse program + sports + maintaining the physical campus and highest level academic offerings, and housing the faculty really adds up…) But about half the students receive tuition assistance. My view has been, investing in high school years is arguably more important than college. You can make the most of whatever college you go to, or consider skipping university for a trade school or community college, but the adolescent years make you.

I loved reading this -- your faculty kid memories, and your feelings of satisfaction watching your own kids shine. So happy for you! XO

Thanks Sarah! I absolutely adore your reunion recap. It’s been almost 10 years since I’ve been back to Ojai. My 30th Thacher reunion is next year.

Thanks Erica! I wish we were on the same reunion cycle. You definitely should go back. They'll likely have speaker panels again, and you'd be a great speaker!

Reading this brought back some great memories of running in the Ojai mountains. Early in my ultra days I had a privilege to hang out and explore trails with fellow ultra runner and mentor Chris Scott. He opened my eyes to what trail running was all about and these mountains became my training ground. We spent countless hours organizing C4P and C2M along with a few other ultra running community gatherings (Blue Moon and The Last Howl). Each of these events (not races) were a reunion in their own way. Like minded runners would gather and rekindle old friendships, challenge their limits and enjoy trail time together not taking themselves too seriously. Some of my deepest relationships were formed in those mountains that continue today. I finished C2M back in the day and went back after it was resurrected. Not the same outcome but had my fill and missed a cutoff at Cozy Dell. I would have pulled the plug anyway not wanting to run in the rain all the way back to Sisar. A supportive community was there to end my day and I still relished the experience in those mountains. Thanks for the memories.

Thank you, Howard! I was happy to read in UltraRunning that C2M came back this past May after a long hiatus. Last Sunday morning, I had the pleasure of running with Sisar Canyon Run Club in the upper Ojai, and the group has been instrumental in helping with trail work and restarting Coyote Two Moon. Hope you'll click through and read the Ojai trails article in UR mag to learn more, and I hope you get to return to Ojai!

Yes I read your article on Ojai trails. All familiar journeys I have taken along with exploring trails deep into the Sespe, Pine Mountain

and the Dick Smith Wilderness . Those mountains and wilderness are a gem to be visited through the seasons to really get a sense of what the connection to the land really offers. I follow the Sisar Running Club and still have friends down south enjoying their adventures. Good to see the revival of that community following in the footsteps of the Coyote Cohorts.
