Hello paid subscribers,

I’m happy and grateful many of you made our Zoom meetup yesterday with special guest Brittany Charboneau, and you asked great questions. For those who had other commitments, see below for a recap and a link to the recording. I’ll try to schedule more special guests for these online meetups, since I got a lot of positive feedback from yesterday.

Brittany is awesome! After making a name for herself as a top-level road marathoner, she revealed to us that she is training for her first 50-mile trail ultra in April. We talked about how her training for a 50-miler now is different from her training for last fall’s Boston. We also discussed how she coped with and bounced back from the nightmare that unfolded at the Boston Marathon, when she went out with the lead pack at a 5:18 pace (!), then struggled with pain from an acute and unexpected pre-race injury, then found herself crying at the sidelines at mile 18, then ultimately learned from that disappointment and found redemption. The Boston blowup led to victory—psychologically, and in terms of all-out winning—at the Disney Dopey Challenge 5K/10K/Half/Marathon.

Some takeaways from our talk (advice that as a coach I wholeheartedly endorse):
